What are the steps in adopting a dog through Sacred Pawz?
How long does the process take?
Adoption through Sacred Pawz is on average 3 days
The first step is to reach out to us. Let us know which dog you are interested in and where you are located.
Ways to connect with us:
Send us an email - sacredpawzboard@gmail.com
Fill out an interest form on PetFinder
Message us through our website
Fill out an application on our website
The second step is to fill out an application (if you haven’t already).
We get asked why we require both an application and a contract. The application tells us about you and your environment. It helps us ensure the puppy you are applying for is good fit and it also helps us assess how much support you may need as a pet owner.
The third step is to connect with one of our board members to talk about our process and schedule a meet and greet.
The fourth step is to do a meet and greet.
We will set up time to meet one of us with the dog you are looking to adopt. We ask that you bring any other dogs that will be in the home as well as any kids that will be in the home. This helps us make sure all family members will enjoy having the new dog in the home.
These meet and greets also allow you to see the dog’s temperament and personality. It helps make sure the dog is a good fit.
After the meet and greet, the final step is to complete the contract and pay the adoption fee.
There are 2 types of adoption contracts:
Foster-to-Adopt Contract - this contract is used until the adopted dog is spayed/neutered. This type of contract is most common with puppies too young to be spayed/neutered, typically under the age of one year old. Once that is complete, the dog is moved to a finalized adoption status. We are working to reduce the homeless dog crisis, and this type of contract helps us do that. New owners on this contract type may choose to use our clinic for a reduced spay/neuter cost or elect to use their own private vet. If their vet is used, the owner must provide us proof of the spay/neuter for the adoption to move to a finalized status.
Finalized Adoption Contract - this contract is used when a dog is already spayed/neutered. Most commonly, this contract applies to dogs over the age of one year old.
